I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan to Ella and Chester Vandergriff. I was their fifth child but first daughter. I married my husband David at the young age of 18 and became an Army Wife, and moved to Germany with him in early 1982.
After the military, we moved to Houston, and were blessed with our one and only child, Sarah in 1985. As much as we loved Texas, we did move back to Michigan in the late 80’s so that our daughter could be raised near our family. Upon returning to Michigan, I began my career in Senior Living as a caregiver, with training and education I became a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in 1996 and moved into the role of Executive Director in 2000. The saying goes, “If you want to be happy, do what you love”, and that’s exactly what I have done since day one of my senior living career.
I always knew we would return to Texas, and in 2013 we did just that. After leaving a very large senior living company, I joined 12 Oaks Senior Living in February 2014 and with much excitement in September of 2014, opened our new community, Wood Glen Court.
My sincere love, respect and appreciation of senior citizens has brought me here and my goal is to continue serving seniors for as long as God allows me to serve.
Jamie Foster's interest in senior living began 15 years ago as she started caring for her grandfather. Seeing how much he relied on her day to day ushered in the rewarding sense that she was making a difference in his life and wellbeing.
As Wood Glen Court's Marketing Director, Jamie loves being a part of a team whose aim is to improve the quality of life for the residents and families we serve. "I see my role as providing a solution to a problem that many families face in caring for their loved ones. Wood Glen Court provides a home and a lifestyle, not just an apartment. Everyone on staff has a pivotal role in our community, providing opportunities for our residents to age with grace and dignity," says Jamie.
Spending time with family is Jamie's first love, with hunting and fishing coming in a very close second! In addition to the adrenaline rush, she finds both hunting and fishing to be very relaxing.
"The best classroom in the world is at the feet of our elders," says Jamie. "I am blessed to be part of the stories, lessons, and opportunities to learn from the seniors we serve.
